  1. Anybody have any research on the effect of class size? I'd appreciate names of articles, or descriptions of any research in the pipeline. Thanks!

I have had a number of requests for research on both issuing grades in developmental education classes as well as recommendations regarding class size. I have found some links that may be helpful. Cut and paste the links and put them into your browser address line.

The use of technology, including online tutoring services that can provide prompt reviews and feedback on student-submitted work would be part of an accelerated model. Also, the link below will take you to an article titled, "Building Foundations fro Student Readiness." The section on supplemental supports (pages 40-48) includes references to tutoring. While this does not directly address interventions connected to acceleration, it does mention the use of intensive tutoring services.

The creation of MOOCs are also being considered/examined as ways to provide tutoring/supplemental materials and assistance in accelerated models.

  7. Hi. I am working on a redesign for developmental math that uses the Emporium model, but it is not modularized. I have not been capable of finding any other schools that have done this. (We may modularize afterward full implementaion) I am looking for someone who has gone through a similar redesign, even with modules, to be able to ask a few questions and possibly visit in the beginning of the Fall semester. I will be running a 2 course pilot in fall.
